This is ingenius and spot on! I still read his blog all the time though and his principles posted on there helped my drawing skills immensely. But it's totally true about the many brown nosers he has brain-washed on there and it's just mind boggling! Nevertheless I'll still refer back to his curriculum page whenever I'm stuck at something, because I believe he's a great mentor.
I read his blog sometimes, he is such a pretentious ass. "Dur hur hur! cheapy made 1960s H&B cartoons am teh best cartoon evur! And has teh best arts! Even though thy are constintly drawn off modul!" "New cartoons are dumb and stupid and dumb!" "Anything with reelistic proporshuns am suck!!!"
Yeah, sometimes I just wanna punch him in the cunt.
Although I do love John K., his work and do agree with some of his rants, this parody is spot on, and hilarious. I love that your parodying his style is justp genius. He looks like Plastic Man if he was drawn by Grim Natwick on acid.
Oh man, you really outdid yourself, Kyle. It was awesome enough that you tore Cartoon Brew/Amid Amidi a new one, but now you riffing on John K as well?! This...this is glorious. I can't stop laughing at how dead on this is.
He may have brought the world Ren and Stimpy and he may be very passionate about his craft, but he still comes off as a self-centered, narrowminded, jaded, pompous He makes unprofessional (and simply uncalled for) potshots at modern animation and believes his opinion is law. The sad thing is his devoted followers are sheep who blindly agree with everything he says. This is why I don't read his blog anymore. But I digress.
Excellent comic. Can't wait to see more of what the Con-Toon saga holds!
Oh, wow! I guess this is what you meant by 'stay tuned,' huh? Definitely a very funny (and sadly quite truthful) parody of good ole' John. And while I had heard that he was quite a tyrant around the studio before, and knew about his virulent intolerance of so many new things, just hearing about some of the accounts in the comments section (especially *fnook) really does make him look that much more pathetic. It makes me wonder how many genuinely talented people who he has sort of taken under his wing can stand being around him. Well, hopefully they won't let him bog them down too much, and can rise up themselves.
By the way, how do you feel personally about the later three seasons of Ren and Stimpy (aka the ones John didn't work on)? I personally love them, despite the step down in animation quality.
*brandishing a swordfish* "I should have done this back in scene 36!"
Oh yeah, those were definitely top-notch ones. A few of my personal favorites from the later seasons are "Double Header/The Scotsman in Space", "Insomniac Ren/My Shiny Friend", "It's a Dog's Life/Eggyolkeo", and "Hermit Ren", as well as any episode with Wilbur Cobb (especially his debut episode, "Stimpy's Cartoon"). Er, I hope you don't mind me kinda rambling on there.
Indeed. Not to mention that it managed to blend both humor and genuine, disturbing horror.
And y'know, now that I think of it, there's a particular Wilbur Cobb quote that I think is actually pretty applicable to John K.'s attitude: "If ya wanna be a genius, it's easy! All ya gotta say is, 'everything stinks!' Then you're never wrong!"
Quite possibly the best shot at that self-proclaimed-godsend to animation himself! You really caught both his twisted personality and style. I can't help but think that Strawberry wanted to put an "-off" at the end of that "jerk" comment (because that's what he is and what most will remember him for). --- "Quick, press down on the medulla oblongata! Five bucks says he smells burnt toast!"- Sam ("The Adventures of Sam & Max: Freelance Police", Ep.5- "They Came From Down There")
..wow! i actually had no idea that john k. was an asshole..! i always kind of looked up to the guy...although those modern ren and stimpys sure gave me nightmares..at least we have the old ones. <3 btw, i love the way i can see his style twisted into yours! amazing
Sometimes we must see the artists' works and the artists' personal lives separately. John K is too radical in his opinions, and people says that his behavior is difficult to handle with, but his drawing style is still awesome.
