Marlet MooBeard by TVsKyle Marlet MooBeard by TVsKyle
So, I got The Art of Kung Fu Panda book for Christmas (thanks Mom and Dad!). It's filled with gorgeous drawings by Nicolas Marlet which I found very inspiring. I've been wanting since then to draw some MooBeard stuff with some of his style elements in the same real media he uses. This is my attempt that that. It's a fun exercise and didn't take very long! I'll likely do some more.

Really nice! I just adore the mastery of silhouette and line of action in your work and you're a big inspiration :). I saw the Moobeard cartoon finally and loved it, BTW. Best wishes!

Dang. You'd be hard pressed to find a more fluid and moving still picture than this. It almost makes me dizzy!

Man, I still haven't finished Kung Fu Panda. I got maybe half an hour in and had to go. That opening sequence was the most nutso thing I've seen in a while, to a point where it was almost heartbreaking to see it transition to 3D. fortunately the 3D really proved it knows how to awesome so it wasn't too sad.

anyway I'm faving this.

The Panda's Kung Fu vs. Moobeard's Sleeve Fu...should be a Battle Royale.

All the other character design work in that book...sorry to say...sucks.
He is a true genius when it comes to character, form and movement. I wish the dude had a blog or something to look at. I'm not really into sequels but I think KFP has a good chance of having some kickass sequels...and i'm partly looking forward to seeing more of his designs. They translate so well into cgi, but damn they look amazing in those 2-d segments. KFP is probably my favourite movie at the mo, but I still havn't seen the secrets of the furious five because I live in Africa and we don't even have it here.

Yeah, Nico really dominates, so I'm glad they gave him the majority of that book. I would've liked some more storyboards, but that could be a whole separate book. I've heard he's very shy and not very confident, so don't hold your breath for that blog.
