So, why haven't they attempted to make a Mario cartoon since DIC's miserable efforts in the late 80s/ early 90s? Sonic's had more than his fair share, but not Mario. Everyone would watch that. I wish I could make it. This is what I'd want to use as my cast of regulars if I ever got to make one. That would be a dream gig. Even if I only got to do it as a comic. What would be really fun is making Mario shorts specifically for the Wii's Nintendo Channel. A boy can dream.

EDIT: Hi everybody! First off, thank you so much for the overwhelming response to this piece. I worked very hard on it, and it's nice to know that you folks like seeing Mario this way.
I want to warn, however, that this is not the place to tell me your opinion of various Mario games nor is it a place to tell me about imaginary Mario anime that involves Waluigi and nudity. Dig? A'thankyou.
That is one very brilliant, amazing, and interesting deviation! Kyle, you've done an awesome job with this piece! What a great idea you have conceived for a Super Mario cartoon series - your series, if it were greenlighted, would have an incredible fanbase and become the number-one, top-rated show on its slot on national cable television, just as "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show" was, at one point, the top-rated show for its own time slot.
With the characters shown in this illustration, among many others, this series would appear to span even the farthest reaches of the Marioverse, and use designs that are even more consistent than that miserable DiC cartoon trilogy. It looks like you're probably going to be writing storylines that will endeavor to prove to Mario fanatics that there's more to the franchise than just the usual "Bowser has kidnapped the princess" plots. I've outgrown video games myself, but if I were still obsessed with them as I was when I was a young lad, I'd be very much excited about this matter! I'd hope for a cast of thousands (including all the established Mario franchise characters and just as many newcomers), plus hordes of major plot twists and a few surprises to boot.
Your idea for a cartoon about the Marioverse has inspired me to create my own idea for a Super Mario TV show - a program which I've christened "The (All-New) Super Mario Super Extravaganza," whose title contains a friendly reference to the working title "Mario Extravaganza" which was given to the Super NES compilation cartridge "Super Mario All-Stars" when it was being developed. I'm presently working on tons of character and scenario concepts for that show; some of these can be seen in this gallery). Go see them for yourself - my character illustrations portray everyone from core Marioverse icons to those characters who simply aren't given the appreciation they deserve, and they also throw in tons of interesting original characters who feel like they really belong in the Mario universe and in the lives of one or more returning cast members.
Congratulations, Kyle! Your work is fantastic and very interesting! I give my regards to you, my good friend!
Ah yes the very classic version of Super Mario Bros. This is totally an epic pic. Everyone or everything looks so classic and cool at the same time! I especially like the way that the villians like Bowser and Donkey Kong look so evil, but yet so funny-looking. I would usually think that Wario and Waluigi would look like a classic anyway. LOL! . Princess Peach and Princess Daisy look so cute! But my most favorite that you did was Yoshi and Birdo sooo adorable. Birdo looks so shy-like and Yoshi looks so cute that i want to hug him!! Anyway there all awesome and GrEaT jOb, tvskyle!
Please tell me the Goomba with a hat is a good guy. Or at least it's like a pet to Toad in a world where Goombas and Toads get along. He's my favorite. (I always like the simplest of things.)
In other words of commenting, this style is SO out there. I like it a lot! If however there was a cartoon using this style, no character should stop moving for more than a few frames; not seconds. These guys are too expressive for single frame to be repeated over and over. I'm going way to much into this....
Anyways the only bad thing I want to say about this is Yoshi's eyes as I always imagined them as wide open (no eyelids...) and looking straight on at something. But getting over my personal preference, it still works alright.
Okay, hands down, your version is better. he is so much happier here. and enthusiastic. i'm also guessing i should play this paper mario. (after the old GBA games i got recently.... and that one Wii game.... and.... SHINY 3DS XL w/ NEW PAPER MARIO!!!)
